Facial Favorites!


I get compliments on my skin all the time and although I have definitely seen better, I have to say my skin is pretty clear and smooth for the most part. I always get the question what do I do to maintain a fresh clean look? Well today I am going to share a few items that I use on my skin on daily or weekly basis. These are the ONLY products I have been using in the last 6 months.


First and Foremost -- DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!!!!
I don't LOVE water but I surely don't hate it. So I try to drink as much as possible throughout the day. Other things I drink are juice and tea. No SODA if you can help it! Caffeine can cause a lot of damage to your skin and body.

Cleanser:
I cleans my face when I wake up and before I go to bed. This is a MUST! My basic cleanser is good ol H20! That's right, WATER! Weather I am wearing makeup or not, at night all I use is a wash cloth and warm water and I wipe my face in sections from the inside out. I like to start from the middle using my nose as the guide. I know I know, you think I am not cleaning out my pores with just water. Well, that may be the case but it works for me. Your skin needs water and drinking it is not the only way to get it in your body! My favorite part about this cleanser is that its all NATURAL!

I also use Jergens Pure & Natural Mild Soap on my face occasionally. I know I know, many say you aren't supposed to use bar soap on your face as it is too harsh. Well for me that is not the case. I discovered this worked for me after I had a rash of some sort (never found out what it was) on my face and neck area. After one time using this soap, the rash was 100% gone. So I decided to use it daily and as I did the black spots on  my face began to lighten. Now that all the dark spots are pretty much gone, I only use this soap on my face twice a week.





Occasional cleanser:
I occasionally, and by occasionally I mean once a week, cleanse with Clean & Clear Morning Burst Cleanser for oily skin. I will cleanse with this once a week twice that day now and typically it is when I know I have a very long day ahead of me full of activity and sweat. I apply water to my face first, then I apply about a dime size amount of the cleanser on the tips of my hand, then I apply to my face in a circular motion coating all areas. A little goes a long way. I love this stuff but I found that not only if over used it will make your skin overly dry, but also when I used it every day for a week and then missed one day, my face would act out! No MAAM! So I decided to wheen myself off using it daily and now only on occasion. My favorite part of this cleanser are the blue beads!



Exfoliate:
What is exfoliating? Its a fancy word for the process of peeling or buffing off any dead skin cells. This therefore helps prevent blackheads and pimple outbreaks. I exfoliate with  cinnamon or brown sugar and honey. I apply 3 tbsp of honey and 1 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar or cinnamon. I apply this on my face as a mask and let sit for 15 minutes. Then I rinse of with warm (more cold than hot) water and my finger tips. Over exfoliating can strip the healthy oils in your skin and leave your skin rough, red, and dry.



Moisturizer:
Moisture is key to my skin care. Some stray away from moisturizing because either they feel there skin isn't dry or it will make their even more oily for those with oily skin. I personal have oily skin and I moisturize daily. Let's face it, I am a African American woman and when water is applied to my skin and no moisture to follow, my skin looks dry and ashy! That's not cute! Some use a toner instead. I haven't experimented with toners so I cant speak on those.



I do agree with those who say a moisturizer that is clogged with a lot of chemicals - ingredients you cannot even pronounce are not beneficial for your skin. So I chose to go the healthy route. You can always use essential oils like olive oil or coconut oil, that may not be or go to. You def want to use something that is oiled based though. I choose to use natural African Shea Butter. I say natural, because there are Shea butters that are sold that have been mixed with X, Y, and Z. What do you all know that starts with these letters??? lol EXACTLY! I apply a very very small amount, about a dime size to my face every morning after cleansing. I do not apply at night when I cleanse my face because when your body has settled and you are resting, there are functions that the body goes through to rejuvenate your entire body. On top of that, my skin can be dry when I go to bed...nobody will see me!

Pimple Outbreak:
I can almost guarantee a pimple will appear on my face a couple of days before my period or when I have something big coming up. Anxiousness is a BEAST! Now that I have found a method to control that I don't over stress it.

Here is what I do: When I spot the pimple coming on, I mix together a very simple concoction! Water & Aspirin! Yes, the aspirin you take for headaches!! Depending on the size of the pimple and how many will depend on how many aspirins  you will need. I typically use two baby aspirins and 1 tsp of water. With my finger tips I apply enough of the paste directly onto the area before I go to bed at night. The next morning VIOLA! the pimple is either gone or dried up to where the redness is gone. It all depends on the size of it.



Other Natural Facial Items:

  • Lemon Juice - I use lemon juice as a natural bleacher for any dark spots I may have.
  • Witch Hazel - I use witch hazel as a natural toner and a disinfectant on my skin. It helps prevents inflammation and acne build up.
